Reverend Dennis H Livingston
Reverend Dennis H.
Livingston was appointed to Valley Center United Methodist Church on
1 July 2008. He was born
and raised in Springfield, Missouri, and graduated from Glendale
High School in 1972. He
worked as a welder-machinist in Springfield for about eight years
before he matriculated at Southwest Missouri State University (now
Missouri State University) in Springfield.
He graduated summa cum
laude in 1984 with a BA in Classics, and he earned a Masters of
Divinity degree, magna cum laude, from Candler School of Theology, Emory University
in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1987.
Dennis has served congregations in the Kansas
West Conference since 1991:
Hunter/Pleasant View charge from 1991 to 1993; the
Washington/Linn charge from 1993 to 1997; St. Francis UMC from 1997
to 2002; Ulysses UMC from 2002 to 2008.
Dennis served on the Kansas West Board of Ministry from 1997
to 2008, and he served as Board chair from 2003 to 2008.
Kansas West Annual Conference elected Dennis as a
jurisdictional conference delegate in 2007.
Dennis is married to Theresa, and they have a
son Clancey who plans to graduate from K-State in May of 2008 with a
biology degree. Dennis
likes to read; he plays around on his bass guitar; he plays with his
golden retriever Jynx; he is a pilot; he likes to spend time in Red
River, New Mexico, Silverton, Colorado, Ouray, Colorado, and a few
other choice spots in or around the mountains.
He has spent time as a photographer and now spends a lot of
time working in the church.
He is glad to be included in a creative,
growing, active United Methodist congregation close to Wichita, that
maintains a vision of ministry and service. He believes that
the VCUMC is perched on the edge of great things, multiple
challenges, and great growth.

Amy Stamm
Amy
started December 15, 2008, and therefore is the newest member
of the Church Staff. She was born in
Belleville, Kansas, and
moved to Salina
shortly thereafter. She
graduated from Salina South
High School in 1990, and then from Kansas
University
(the good school!) in 1994, with a Bachelor in General Sciences. She
majored in Psychology and Human Development and Family Life. She
and Matt were married one month after college graduation and
then she moved to Smolan, Kansas with him.
Yes, Smolan is on the map!
Kennedy was born in 1998 and Kyle was born in 2000.
They lived there ten years until her job transferred them to
Wichita.
They moved to Valley Center
in 2004. After working for
Roadway Express for 14 years, she decided to quit and begin working
at the church. "I believe
the job came available at just the right time for us and I am so
glad that it did!" In her
“spare time” she is a Girl Scout Troop Leader, serves on the AYSO
(soccer) board, teaches Kids of the Kingdom on Wednesday nights, and
helps at the schools.
You might also like to know that Amy won first prize at the 2009 First United
Methodist–Valley Center Chili Cook-Off, and in high school she
belonged to New Dawn, a singing and dancing group, and she performed
at Carnegie Hall.

Brian Potillo
1. When did you start working at
FUMCVC?
I started
working at FUMCVC in July of 2002.
2. What quality in Jesus do you
most admire?
There are, of
course, many qualities to admire in our Savior.
However, I’ve just recently been reading, studying and
preparing to teach a lesson on the temptation of Jesus in the
wilderness. I just love
how he was so prepared with Scripture to counter the three
temptations recorded. I
love to read God’s Word and I pray that my consistent reading and
studying of Scripture would make me just as prepared.
3. Who has most inspired you?
It goes without
saying, I guess, that Jesus is my ultimate inspiration.
But of those who I am with here, there are a few.
A former pastor, Larry Towne, for his help in leading me into
God’s work. My wife,
Audrey, well, for just being herself – I love her a lot!
My kids, because they inspire me to be a better dad everyday.
4. When you enter heaven, to whom
do you want to talk first?
I do miss my
grandpa…
5. If you could spend a day
completely for yourself, what would you do?
I’d love to
spend part of that day just reading, but I don’t like to be alone
too long, so I’d want to spend time with my wife and kids.
Spending time with the family God has blessed me with is what
I most like to do. And
most likely, whatever I ultimately chose to do, there would probably
be a baseball game and/or good music on in the background!
6. What is your favorite movie.
I don’t like
this question because the word “movie” is singular – I can’t choose
just one! How ‘bout
these: All 6 Star Wars movies, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the
Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy, The Dark Knight, Get Smart and
Monty Python’s The Holy Grail.
As you can see, I like “realistic” movies!
7. What is
your favorite book?
The Bible is
number one, but anything written by Ted Dekker (Thr3e, The Circle
Trilogy, Adam…) or Frank Peretti (This Present Darkness, Oath…) is
way up high on my list.
8. What is your favorite
restaurant?
Again, singular?
It depends what I’m in the mood for – and I’m always in the
mood for a good cheeseburger, like at Big Larry’s here in Valley Center.
But I also like to go to the Acapulco
in Newton
for Mexican food. And I
love the food at Red Rock Canyon Grill.
I better stop, I’m getting hungry . . .
9. If you were not doing this job,
what would you want to do?
I always wanted
to be a radio DJ - maybe because people told me I had a face for
radio? Since then I’ve
also decided that working as a cook in a restaurant or at a food
factory would be fun (Like the ones I see on the Food Network)!
But since I have no experience in any of those areas, I’d
probably be anywhere I could work with people.
My first job was as a sacker at a grocery store, maybe I’d
end up where I first started . . .
10. What place
would you most like to visit?
Overseas, I’d
love to see the pyramids and such in Egypt.
But more realistic would be I would like to visit all 30
Major League Baseball stadiums (preferably to see a game at each).
And if there’s time (and money) after that, work on all of
the Minor League stadiums . . .

Cheryl Ward
Cheryl has been on the church
staff since July 1992. She is currently serving as Director of
Lay Ministries. Her primary function is working with the
Fellowship & Outreach Committee to draw people to Christ and
involve them in the life and ministry of the church. She is
responsible for visitation contacts and caring ministries.
1. When did you begin work at
FUMCVC?
Staff Parish and Rick Thornton hired me in July 1992 as
Director of Education. When Pastor Carol Moore Ramey came,
the children's programs were expanding and they thought
someone full time would be a better fit. Since I enjoy half
time hours so much, I was offered Director of Lay Ministries
(which staff parish thought was even more use of my God
given talents). The last seven years have given me more
satisfaction than ever.
2. What quality in Jesus do you
most admire?
Jesus said love unconditionally. We have two grown sons who
have had some rocky years. We love and pray for their well
being every day. They know they can come to us no matter
what for support.
3. Who has most inspired you?
My mother most inspired me. She taught me hospitality to
others and firm faith. She made sure my sister and I were
grounded at church. I've been a Methodist all my life.
4. When you enter heaven, to
whom do you want to talk first?
When I enter heaven, the first person I want to talk to is
my dad. He died at an early age of 50 years with colon
cancer. Paul and I were married at the time, but it hit me
very hard when I had our first son and could not share the
good times with my dad.
5. If you could spend a day
completely for yourself, what would you do?
If I had a day to myself, I would go to the mall and browse
through my favorite stores, eat pizza by the slice and then
take in a comedy movie.
6. What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is "Long, Long Trailer" with Lucille Ball
and Desi Arnez. It makes me laugh every time when she
collects rocks along the trip and places them strategically
so they don't imbalance the huge trailer in the mountains.
7. What is your favorite book?
My favorite book is a daily inspirational that I can read
short stories that motivate me.
8. What is your favorite
restaurant?
My favorite restaurant is an Italian one (DeFazios or Olive
Garden).
9. If you were not doing this
job, what would you want to be doing?
I'd enjoy being a hostess at the Cracker Barrel in my next
life. It's a friendly position, and I could shop til I
dropped.
10. What place would you most
like to visit?
If I had necessary funds, I'd go to the east coast and stay
at bed and breakfasts and go antiquing all afternoon.
